Newly Diagnosed Children and Their Families…
require sensitive support! Ruby has over 40 years of experience at helping parents understand their child and how to establish the best parent-child connections. Families who are newly diagnosed most desire to help their child be his or her best. Through parent-child play (learning Floortime) and gentle parental support, Ruby brings better clarity of their child to the parents, the child to emotionally make richer, deeper connections and to promoting synergy between them. Families need the opportunity to be healthy and balanced, even when confronted with challenges. Establishing the best supports for themselves, including an appropriately fitted professional TEAM for their child, is an important part of what Ruby helps families build. Every family must build the best environment of safety and nurturance possible for their children and themselves. Ruby Salazar recognizes the sensitive opportunity at the time of a new diagnosis to enable families to set themselves on a path of family and individual health and well being
Developmental Individual Differences, Relationship-Based Treatment (DIR Model) and Floortime:
In the early 1980’s, Ruby met Drs. Greenspan and Wieder, the developers of the Developmental Individual Differences, Relationship-Based Treatment (DIR Model), and was honored to work with them over the years to refine the model. This model helps children and adolescents reach their highest social-emotional and cognitive potential, integrating ALL developmental elements important to functioning well. As senior faculty at ICDL and founding member and senior faculty at Profectum Academy and Foundation, she is available to offer individualized clinical consultation for your child and family and provide professional training, individual and group reflective supervision and consultation to those who are interested in learning and using this valuable developmental relational approach.
Topics Include:
Introduction to DIR and Floortime
Supporting families and learning to work with parents and other caregivers, especially in partnership
Creating and maintaining a truly individuated educational program based on DIR principles
Advanced clinical DIR work
Learning DIR Reflective Supervision and tutoring in organizations and privately
DIR course development for teaching/training
Intensive Clinical Consultation…
Families who seek direction in enhancing a clinical home, community and educational program can receive an intensive 3 hour to 3 day consultation. This involves the review of family and school videos and in person conjoint play with Ruby and each parent, detailed discussion with parents and clinical TEAM members (as requested by the parents). A thorough historical review and detailed rendering of strengths and challenges in current functioning, a deep look at the child and family aspects of daily living and play observation with caregiver coaching can be a part of an Intensive consultation. The outcome is the design a comprehensive home/school program. A primary GOAL of an Intensive consultation is the understanding of where and how to be interacting with the child NOW and guiding TEAM members for cohesiveness in their care.
Reflective Supervision and Practice…
for mental health practitioners, occupational therapists, speech and language professionals, early interventionists and educators in individual, small group and agency/school/hospital settings. Ruby runs ongoing supervision groups and always looks for the best fit for the mentee and group membership. She, as facilitator, aims to create and customize individual and group reflective learning experiences. Building reflective supervision relationships of the highest quality to create working relationships focused on professional development and learning is the primary intention in the reflective supervision services provided.
Autism Spectrum Disorder and Trauma…
One of the earliest professionals interested in acute and chronic trauma as it impacts children on the autistic spectrum, Ruby has developed a family focused intervention that respectfully supports the child to better health in the nurturing environment of the family. Because of persistent emotional upheaval, often a child who is struggling with under-treated trauma problems, coupled with the concurrence of ASD, will manifest the upset through behaviors. These behaviors are communicative efforts on the part of the child, can be upsetting and worrisome for the family, confusing and hard to understand, manage or resolve. There are times when folks do not realize that it is trauma that is looking for resolution and caregivers might only focus on behavior and not the child’s need to feel safer through making sense of impacting life events. If your child is driven by overt and/or undercurrents of trauma, and has mild to severe trauma in their history, then consult Ruby for clarification and treatment needs. She will provide sensitive palpability and offer careful and respectful help in the development of treatment planning and care for your child and family.
